Doggie Birthday Cake

Last Tuesday was Mr. Z’s 6th birthday. Seeing as he is one of the most spoiled dogs on the planet, I took the day off work to spend it with him. Yes, I used a vacation day for my dogs birthday. Don’t judge me.

It was supposed to be another sweltering 90° day, so we went to the dog park first thing in the morning. Z isn’t the most social dog, but the dog park has definitely helped him come out of his shell a bit more. Even if you have a fenced in yard, I would still recommend the dog park to any pup parent. Plus the beagle in him loves how much there is to smell out there! Pretty sure he forgets I’m there too sometimes.

No birthday is complete without a trip to the Barkery. Yes, Spell Check I actually meant Barkery. Z spent a good 45 minutes deciding which treats he wanted for his birthday and eating a whole sample bag of treats courtesy of the cashier when she learned it was his birthday. Needless to say it was a successful trip in Z’s eyes and required a nap once that massive cookie was gone.

Birthday Z

As Z napped I got started on his homemade Doggie Birthday Cake. You know, because he hadn’t had enough treats already. I created this Doggie Birthday Cake recipe specifically for Z since molasses is one of his favorite flavors. I dropped a molasses favored horse cookie at the barn one day and Z gobbled it up before I could get to it. The rest of the time we were there he would not leave me alone, wanting more of those cookies. Not a common flavor for dog treats so I typically have to make any with molasses myself.

This cake was pretty simple to whip up and a big hit with Z. He gobbled down his piece in no time.

He makes funny faces when eating. Look at those crazy eyes!

And then he dropped it frosting first onto the carpet. Go figure.

I cut this cake into about 10 pieces, but you could make smaller or bigger pieces depending on your dog's size.

This doggie birthday cake was super easy to make and Z loved it! I hope you enjoy making it for your furbabies too. How do you celebrate your dog’s birthday?
